Top Tips for Cleaning Your Windows

Spring is the time to do the spring cleaning of your home. May be around Easter? But how can a spring cleaning come without cleaning the windows? Here is some practical advice.

Take the net curtains down, it is the time to wash them up as well. Clear the window sill – a good occasion to clean that as well especially if you arrange it with personal items and flower pots. Put something on the floor to protect the wooden floor underneath

Start by preparing the solution: Add 2 table spoons of vinegar to 1 litre of water. For very dirty windows, add a table spoon of clear spirit. For shine add some salt. Start washing your windows with a damp cloth. Be careful when using strong window cleaning solutions, they can damage surrounding paintwork.

Wipe off the excess solution with a clean dry cloth, starting at the top of the window and work your way down in round circles for maximum efficiency.

Remove any remaining water from the glass with a damp chamois. Finally dry the windowsill beneath with a cloth.

Wash windows on a cloudy day. Direct sunlight dries them too quickly, leaving streaks on the glass.

How frequently to clean your windows – it is your personal choice and it also depends on the location of your property – if you live on a main road with a lot of traffic on it, or you are on the ground floor, it is recommendable to do it twice a year at least as this will add a truly surprising difference to all your rooms by making them lighter and brighter.
